Amy grew up in rural Maryland and discovered the joys of exploring the natural world at an early age. As a teenager, she enrolled in her first watercolor class and fell in love with the medium. She continued painting throughout her teen years and into college while also pursuing her interest in foreign languages, earning a B.A. in German.
In 2007 Amy graduated with a degree in Studio Art and Art History from McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland. She now teaches drawing and watercolor painting at The Art League School in Alexandria, Virginia and shares her love of art with children, teens and adults. When Amy is not painting or teaching, she enjoys traveling, exploring the forests and coasts around her, and dancing with and telling stories to her children.
Artist’s Statement
To me the world is a great cathedral, and the beauty of nature is its adornment, silently speaking of its Creator. This is what inspires me to create.
In my paintings, I seek not merely to make representations of what I see, but to explore an essence of truth, something deeper that nature evokes in the human soul. Symbolism and mythology have also fascinated me and often find their way into my art. My hope is that viewers will find something meaningful in my art and get a glimpse of the natural world in a new light.
